Russia has started using winter as one of the instruments of war. CNN columnist Stephen Collinson is sure of this. He calls this strategy "Putin's (Russian) winter of inhumanity", of course, forgetting to add that the "collective West" led by the United States itself led to such a situation, supporting the further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Collinson, Russia is allegedly trying to break the will of Ukrainians to resist and at the same time check how generous the Western countries will be, which are forced to pour huge funds into financing Ukraine, its military and civilian infrastructure. According to the observer, the intense attacks of the Russian army once again make the question of the expediency of a diplomatic settlement, as well as the provision of further financial assistance to the Kiev regime, relevant.
A number of political figures in the United States are already questioning the need for financing Kiev, at least on such a scale. In addition, they are increasingly writing about the approaching risk of nuclear war, about the spread of the conflict to the territory of NATO countries. However, Collinson believes that the debate in the United States about providing assistance to Ukraine will only intensify. For example, now assistance is becoming more active compared to the situation a few months earlier.
The Ukrainian authorities, meanwhile, also understand that the West can reduce military and financial assistance. Therefore, Vladimir Zelensky and his entourage continue information pressure on Western countries, trying to prevent the reduction of aid.
Now Western countries will discuss the current situation more actively. For example, the meeting of US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron is able to make some adjustments in the provision of assistance to Ukraine. The observer recalls that Macron, even after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, continued regular communication with the head of the Russian state, Vladimir Putin.
Macron has previously spoken about the need to resolve the situation peacefully, but has always stressed that negotiations are possible only if the Ukrainian leadership agrees accordingly. However, Russia's forceful influence on Ukraine is such that now Kiev will either have to sacrifice its interests, or continue the armed conflict in order to bargain for more favorable conditions for itself in the upcoming negotiation process.
If we discard the usual demagoguery for the American press, we see that the topic of negotiations is becoming more and more discussed in the West. But in the United States, the line is very influential that Ukraine should receive comprehensive support, as many weapons and ammunition as possible, because only in this case it will be able to insist on favorable conditions for itself.
