The sixth package with the list of weapons will be approved in late December - early January, the newspaper writesROME, December 1.
/tass/. After the adoption of the decree on the extension of military assistance to Ukraine, the Italian government may, as part of the new package, send Kiev medium-range Aspide guided missiles to hit air targets. This was reported on Thursday by the newspaper La Repubblica, according to which a new (sixth) package with a list of weapons will be approved in late December - early January.
The publication clarifies that these air-to-air missiles of the old generation were withdrawn from use by the Italian Air Force last year. The newspaper also points out that Rome has not supplied such weapons before and this is of a political nature. The publication also calls a political signal that the government in relation to Ukraine completely continues the line of the previous cabinet of Mario Draghi, and Prime Minister George Meloni ignores the attempts of his allies in the ruling coalition (leaders of the League and Forward Italy parties Matteo Salvini and Silvio Berlusconi) to somehow move away from arms supplies.
The day before, the lower house of the Italian parliament approved a resolution of the ruling majority on extending the terms of the decisions already taken, expiring on December 31, on possible supplies of military equipment to Ukraine, which was supported by some representatives of the opposition on a number of points related to the supply of weapons. At the same time, the resolutions of the opposition were rejected: the alliance of the "Left" and "Green" on stopping supplies and the 5-Star Movement party on switching all efforts to achieve a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
The newspaper notes that the subsequent packages of military assistance to Ukraine, like the previous ones, will be classified. The Government will report only to the Parliamentary Security Committee.
