Washington. November 26. INTERFAX - The United States military base in Al-Shaddadi in northeastern Syria has been subjected to rocket fire, a representative of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Colonel Joe Buccino, said.
In a message posted on the CENTCOM website, it says that the base was hit by two missiles.
"Attacks of this kind put coalition forces and civilians at risk, undermine the hard-won stability and security of Syria and the region," Buccino said.
It is noted that as a result of the shelling, no one was injured, no material damage was caused.
The report does not indicate who launched the missile attack, but it indicates that later representatives of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF, a US-backed military alliance, the core of which is the Kurdish self-defense forces) "visited the site of the missile hit and found a third unexploded one."
Earlier it was reported that the Turkish Air Force has been attacking the positions of the Kurdish paramilitary forces of the SDF in Syria and Iraq in recent days.
U.S. Defense Department spokesman General Pat Ryder said this week that Turkey's strikes on Syria and Iraq threaten the safety of American personnel working in these areas.
"The recent airstrikes in Syria directly threatened the safety of American personnel who are working there with local partners to defeat ISIS (ISIL, Islamic State, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation)," Ryder said in a statement released by the Pentagon.
The official noted that "immediate de-escalation is necessary in order to continue to focus on defeating ISIS, and to ensure the safety of personnel on the ground."
The general added: "We recognize Turkey's legitimate security concerns. We will continue to discuss with Turkey and our local partners the preservation of the ceasefire agreements," noting that "the Ministry of Defense is deeply concerned about the escalation of actions in northern Syria, Iraq and Turkey."
