/tass/. Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the head of Poland's ruling Law and Justice party, suggested that Germany deploy Patriot missile defense systems in western Ukraine. He stated this in an interview with the Polish Press Agency distributed on Wednesday, commenting on Germany's proposal to transfer Patriot systems to Poland.
"This is an interesting proposal," he said, stressing that he expresses a personal opinion. "But I think it would be better for Poland's security if Germany handed over these weapons to Ukrainians, trained Ukrainian crews on the condition that the batteries would be deployed in the west of Ukraine," Kaczynski said.
In his opinion, "this would make it possible to shoot down enemy missiles more effectively than using the S-300." "On the other hand, it would protect us from such events as in Przewodów. At the same time, if the Russians decided to attack us, it would protect us," he said.
On November 15, a rocket landed in the village of Przevodow (Lublin Voivodeship), located in eastern Poland on the border with Ukraine, killing two people. Polish President Andrzej Duda said that, according to the assessment of the authorities of the republic, the ammunition belonged to the Ukrainian air defense forces. In Warsaw, the incident is considered an accident. The US State Department said that the US administration is fully confident in the accuracy of the conclusions of the Polish authorities. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the missile was fired from the S-300 air defense system of Ukraine.
On Monday, German Defense Minister Kristine Lambrecht told the Rheinische Post that Germany offers Poland support in ensuring the security of the republic's airspace, including with the help of Patriot batteries. Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak then wrote on Twitter that Warsaw had accepted Germany's offer to provide Patriot batteries and planned to place them on the border with Ukraine. The German Defense Ministry said it could not yet say exactly how many Patriot missile systems are supposed to be sent to Poland in light of the emergency with the fall of a rocket on the border with Ukraine.
