The statements of the CIA's deputy director of Operations David Marlowe repeat recent statements by former senior management officials that "the disappointment of many Russians creates favorable ground for recruiting agents among the discontented"NEW YORK, November 23.
/tass/. The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is looking for opportunities to recruit Russians who have a negative attitude to the special military operation in Ukraine and are ready to cooperate with American intelligence. This was reported on Tuesday by The Wall Street Journal, referring to a recent speech by CIA Deputy Director of Operations David Marlowe at the Hayden Analytical Center at George Mason University (Virginia).
"We are looking all over the world for Russians who are dissatisfied with [the operation] just like us, and we are ready to discuss cooperation," he said. A rare public appearance by Marlowe took place last week in front of a specially selected audience of the university and its staff, the newspaper writes. The Center distributed a video of the meeting on Monday. It was also attended by Deputy Director of the CIA Linda Weissgold, who heads the analytical department of the intelligence agency.
Marlowe's remarks echo recent claims by former senior CIA officials that "the frustration of many Russians creates favorable ground for recruiting agents among disgruntled military officers, oligarchs who suffered damage due to sanctions, and people who fled the country," The Wall Street Journal notes.
