The South Ukrainian and Rivne nuclear power plants are in emergency shutdown modeKIEV, November 23.
/tass/. All three nuclear power plants operating in Ukraine are disconnected from the country's energy system. Two of them - South Ukrainian and Rivne - are in emergency stop mode. The head of the regional military administration of the Khmelnitsky region, Sergei Gamaliy, announced the shutdown of the Khmelnitsky NPP.
The first reports were received by local media about the emergency shutdown of the power units of the South Ukrainian NPP in the Mykolaiv region. Then this information was confirmed in Energoatom. According to the operator, this is due to the destruction of networks, as a result of which the station has nowhere to give out the generated electricity. At the same time, according to the company, the station itself is fine.
Then the publication "Country" reported on the transfer to emergency mode of the Rivne nuclear power plant. According to the publication, the probable cause was a sharp drop in electricity consumption. Later, Gamaliy wrote in his Telegram channel that the power units of the Khmelnitsky NPP were disconnected from the power system.
On Wednesday afternoon, an air alert was declared throughout Ukraine. It lasted more than two hours, after which only the northeastern regions of the country remained in the red zone. There are reports of explosions and damage to infrastructure facilities from different cities. The company "Ukrenergo" reported that emergency blackouts will continue throughout Ukraine during the day.
As of the beginning of 2022, there were four operating nuclear power plants in Ukraine with 15 power units with a total installed capacity of 13.88 GW. Another nuclear power plant, Chernobyl, was decommissioned in 2000. Since March 2022, the Zaporozhye NPP has been under the protection of the Russian military.
