At the training grounds in Belarus, Russian military personnel of the artillery units of the Western Military District (ZVO) continue the course of intensive combat training. This was announced on Wednesday, November 23, by the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the ministry, the servicemen arrived in the republic to improve shooting from standard weapons, driving combat vehicles, passing a psychological obstacle course, studying the skills of tactical medicine and other disciplines.
The Russian military is honing the firing of Msta-B howitzer batteries at 7.5 km. It is noted that one shell of this gun can destroy everything on an area of up to 200 m. However, the defeat of the target depends on the coordinated work of the calculation. Gunners, lock and loaders must act together.
"If there is no coherence, the calculation will be confused, do not know what to grab, and the loading time will increase much," said the platoon commander with the call sign "Som".
In addition, each soldier in the calculation must be interchangeable and be able to work in different positions.
"This is done so that in case of illness of any serviceman, he could fulfill his duties," the commander of the artillery battery with the call sign "Dad" stressed.
Coordination of actions is also being worked out by calculations of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) "Grad". The area affected by the "Hail" is measured in hectares. The system is capable of suppressing almost any target.
The duration of a full salvo is only 20 seconds, during which time 40 shells are fired for each installation.
"Everyone should know their combat tasks, who should be responsible for what, then everything will be fine, we will fit in time," explained senior gunner Oleg.
The Ministry of Defense reported that combat crews continue to master the algorithms of artillery fire. Classes at the training grounds of Belarus are held daily.
Earlier, on November 20, the calculations of the Grad MLRS of the artillery unit of the Airborne Troops of the Russian Federation during a special operation to protect Donbass destroyed four American M777 howitzers in a week. According to one of the servicemen, the Polish self-propelled artillery installation "Crab", the German artillery installation, as well as the Buk air defense system and the Grad MLRS of the enemy were also among the equipment disabled by the calculation.
On November 16, Izvestia correspondent Valentin Trushnin visited the positions of Russian gunners, and also talked with the commander of one of the batteries to show the work of the troops.
On the same day, servicemen of the self-propelled artillery units (ACS) 2S-19 "Msta-S" artillery unit of the first army Corps of the People's Militia of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) told about their work in the special operation zone.
The special military operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
