The missiles are equipped with a laser homing system, the newspaper notesLONDON, November 22.
/tass/. The UK has supplied Ukraine with upgraded high-precision Brimstone 2 missiles, the launch range of which is twice as long as that of the previously transferred first-generation Brimstone missiles. This was reported by The Daily Telegraph on Monday evening.
Missiles equipped with a laser homing system are traditionally launched by the British Air Force from Tornado and Typhoon fighters, but the APU uses trucks as mobile launchers. The publication notes that the cost of one Brimstone 2 missile, which entered service with the Royal Air Force in 2016, is estimated at about £ 175 thousand ($ 207 thousand). The range of a rocket launched from an airplane is 60 km, but when launched from ground platforms it is about 12 km.
Earlier, the UK sent to Ukraine about 7 thousand NLAW anti-tank missile systems, more than 100 armored vehicles, Stormer self-propelled anti-aircraft guns equipped with Starstreak missiles, several dozen M109 howitzers and towed L119 guns, M270 multiple rocket launchers, more than 16 thousand artillery shells, barrage ammunition and 4.5 tons of plastic explosives.
In mid-October, it also became known that the UK government will supply Ukraine with AIM-120 (Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile, AMRAAM) medium-range missiles for American NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems. In addition, London promised to train 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers every four months in three-week training courses. According to the latest data, by now British instructors have already trained more than 7 thousand servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On November 19, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who visited Kiev, announced that London would hand over 125 anti-aircraft guns to Kiev, as well as special equipment to strengthen air defense and combat drones. In turn, the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom informed that by mid-December it will supply 25 thousand sets of winter uniforms for the AFU, 2 thousand sleeping sets for extremely cold weather and 150 tents with heating as part of the next aid package.
