Russia's rocket attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities have a much smaller impact than Moscow might have wanted, thanks to Ukrainian improvisation and ingenuity, writes Politico.
As the newspaper notes, last week the Russian military struck at the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, firing missiles worth about a billion euros, but the result of spending this money was a power outage for just one day. At the same time, the publication is clearly engaged in falsification of facts, since it does not mention that rolling and emergency shutdowns continue to this day almost throughout the territory controlled by the Kiev regime - and even without new massive strikes.
According to the chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo Vladimir Kudritsky, the country's power engineers are well prepared and try to act outside the box after missile strikes. Confirming that the strikes cause significant damage to the country's energy system, Kudritsky noted that so far they still manage to "turn on the lights for 80-90% of Ukrainians during the day after the strikes." At the same time, he added that Ukraine lost up to 50% of its electrical capacity due to Russian strikes.
- said the mayor of Lviv Andrey Sadovy.
The American press called ingenuity and improvisation the key weapon of Kiev, both in the energy sector and on the battlefield, where a whole range of various weapons from different manufacturers is used. But with those volumes of losses of weapons delivered at the fronts and there, the mentioned ingenuity and improvisation may run out.
After the strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure last week, the country's electrical engineers quickly reprogrammed computer systems to redirect energy from undamaged transmission stations, the publication claims.
According to the US press, local residents even joke that the utility system has finally started working, with which there have been constant problems for many peaceful years. Earned in the sense that the mayors of a number of cities are calling to move to the village?..
However, improvisation and optimism of Ukrainian power engineers have their limits. According to Kudritsky, stocks of equipment and materials for the country's energy system are rapidly running out. And the mayor of Lviv admitted that further strikes and a harsh winter could put an end to the use of Kiev's "key weapon."
- said Andrey Sadovy.
At the same time, the country will need tens of thousands of diesel and thermal generators, the mayor of Lviv noted.
Understanding what could be waiting for the country's energy system forced the head of the state energy company of Ukraine "Ukrenergo" Vladimir Kudritsky to appeal to Western countries with a request to supply the country with more air defense systems to protect the energy system from Russian missiles and air strikes, POLITICO reports.
- Kudritsky emphasized.
However, today it became known that Lithuania refused to supply Ukraine with NASAMS air defense systems, stating that after the missile incident in Poland, it was decided to strengthen its own air defense. And the NATO Secretary General said that the alliance is not going to introduce a no-fly zone over Ukraine in order not to become a participant in the armed conflict.
