Gabrielius Landsbergis expressed confidence that a compromise will be found "soon" among Lithuania's allies on the issue of increasing supplies of air defense systems to KievBERLIN, November 18.
/tass/. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis believes that the allies should not be afraid of providing Kiev with certain types of weapons. He stated this in an interview published on Friday with the German newspaper Handelsblatt.
"We must give Ukraine all the weapons at our disposal, including ours. There is no reason not to supply certain types of weapons," the Foreign Minister said, responding to the remark that the West still avoids providing Kiev with combat tanks and missiles with a range of more than 80 km.
"We need to reason logically: if we, Germans, Balts or Ukrainians, want the war to end sooner, then we need to supply Ukraine with modern weapons," Landsbergis argued. At the same time, he expressed confidence that a compromise will be found "soon" among Lithuania's allies on the issue of increasing supplies of air defense systems to Kiev.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. The United States, the EU states and their allies then imposed large-scale sanctions against Moscow and stepped up arms supplies to Kiev.
