Hong Kong. November 18. INTERFAX - The missile launched by the DPRK on Friday flew about 1 thousand km, reaching a maximum altitude of 6.1 thousand km, the rocket's flight speed reached 22 Mach, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing the South Korean military.
According to an agency source from among the employees of the Ministry of Defense, it is assumed that North Korea has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) "Hwasong-17".
"The current launch of an ICBM by North Korea is a significant provocation and a serious act of threat that undermines peace and stability not only on the Korean peninsula, but also in the international community, and is a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions," the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea said in a statement.
It stresses that the South Korean military will maintain a state of readiness to respond to any North Korean provocation in close cooperation with the United States.
North Korea on Friday launched a missile, which, for a long time, is an intercontinental ballistic missile.
The Ministry of Defense of Japan reported that the missile fell around 11:20 (5:20 Moscow time) in the waters near the island of Hokkaido.
The day before, North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee warned that Pyongyang would take "tougher" military action if the United States strengthened its commitments to "expanded deterrence" to regional allies.
