Alexey Podberezkin, director of the MGIMO Center for Military and Political Studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences, commented on the incident with the missiles falling on the territory of Poland on Sputnik radio.Incorrect operation of the Ukrainian air defense system could have caused an incident with the fall of missiles on the territory of Poland, according to the director of the Center for Military and Political Studies of MGIMO, Doctor of Historical Sciences Alexey Podberezkin.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said that Russian experts identified the wreckage of the rocket in the pictures from the explosion site in Poland as elements of the Ukrainian S-300.
"Statements by various Ukrainian sources and foreign officials about the fall of allegedly "Russian missiles" in the village of Przevodow are a deliberate provocation with the aim of escalating the situation," the ministry noted.
The day before, two rockets fell in the Lublin voivodeship on the border with Ukraine. The Polish Foreign Ministry immediately stated that they were Russian-made, but President Andrzej Duda noted that there was no exact information yet. Later, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that in a conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, he called for a tough response to the fall of missiles in Poland. In a post on the Telegram channel, he called the incident "Russian missile terror."
"The S-300 is a missile designed to destroy aircraft, fighter–bombers primarily, as well as short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. This is a fairly old rocket, the Soviet one is a well–known rocket, it was even exported. Therefore, everyone knows her tactical and technical data perfectly well. Its range is about 200 kilometers, but it's still not enough to, let's say, launch it from under Belgorod so that it reaches Poland," Alexey Podberezkin said on Sputnik radio.
He expressed his version of what happened.
"The massive strike that was made yesterday, very effective, was inflicted on the western regions of Ukraine. He created difficulties for those remnants of air defense systems that have still been preserved in Ukraine. The professionalism of the Ukrainian peveoshnikov and so was not very high. The oversaturation of missile strikes and the confusion, unprofessionalism of Ukrainians led to the fact that they could launch a missile at a false target or in the wrong direction. They simply could not orient themselves, they did not have enough skill," the military expert believes.
He called such mistakes characteristic of the Ukrainian side.
"I want to remind you that they shot down our plane over the Black Sea in the same way, flying from Israel, then they shot down a Malaysian plane. That is, it is all connected with professional training and the command of the air defense of Ukraine, which is far from effective," said Alexey Podberezkin.
The versions of the Ukrainian and Polish sides about Russian strikes on Polish territory are untenable, he continued.
"This is completely excluded, because neither by range, nor by any other parameters is it possible. Even if we suddenly wanted to. Imagine a rocket worth tens of millions of dollars. Should it be aimed at a tractor trailer?" the expert said.
In his opinion, the Russian side could help in the investigation, but the true culprits of the incident do not need it.
"To recreate the picture of what happened, of course, is easy. When the Malaysian Boeing was shot down, Almaz-Antey recreated the picture down to the smallest details. The question is who needs it. If necessary, it will be perceived normally. And if it is not necessary, then obvious things will be perceived quite differently," concluded Alexey Podberezkin.
