/tass/. The participants of the special session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the creation of an international register of damage allegedly caused by Russia to Ukraine, as well as recognizing the need to create a mechanism for damages. This is reported by a TASS correspondent.
94 countries voted for the resolution, 14 opposed it, 73 abstained.
As the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzia pointed out at the beginning of the debate at the special session, the resolution is intended to legalize the seizure of Russian assets frozen earlier by Western countries.
Russia, Belarus, Zimbabwe, Iran, China, North Korea, Cuba, Mali, Nicaragua, Syria, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, the Central African Republic, Eritrea and Ethiopia voted against the document.
Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan abstained from the post-Soviet countries. The resolution was supported by Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Ukraine and Estonia. Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan did not participate in the voting.
Among other States, Hungary and Turkey supported the resolution. Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Serbia abstained.
Of the BRICS countries, in addition to the above-mentioned Russia and China, Brazil, India and South Africa abstained.
The UNGA special Session on Ukraine resumed on November 14. A draft resolution on the mechanism for collecting reparations from Russia was submitted to the meeting.
"The General Assembly recognizes the need to establish, in cooperation with Ukraine, an international mechanism to compensate for damage, losses or harm caused by illegal actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine from the point of view of international law. The General Assembly recommends that Member countries, in cooperation with Ukraine, create an international register of damage, which will serve as a source of information on claims and their justification in connection with damage, damage or damage for all interested individuals and legal entities, as well as for the state of Ukraine," the text of the document, which is available to TASS, says.
The resolution also contains another call to the Russian Federation to cease hostilities in Ukraine and withdraw troops. It was prepared by Western countries with the participation of Kiev.
