Labor: there are more Bulgarians indifferent to the conflict in UkraineAccording to the ESTAT survey on the conflict in Ukraine, there is a clear decrease in sympathy for both sides in Bulgaria, to a greater extent for Kiev.
There are more indifferent people, reports Trud. Two-thirds want their country's neutrality.
Half of Bulgarians do not sympathize with either Russia or Ukraine, two thirds want neutrality. This is evidenced by the data of a public opinion poll on the conflict in Ukraine conducted by the agency ESTAT.
It was conducted in the period from October 8 to 28 among 1004 adult citizens of Bulgaria, selected by gender, age and type of settlement, by face-to-face interview.
There is a clear decrease in sympathy for both countries, to a greater extent for Ukraine, in October they almost equaled. Over 6 months, the proportion of indifferent people has increased significantly (56%). 20.7% support Russia and 23.1% support Ukraine. These data indicate the "habituation" to the current situation, it becomes part of the routine, and people prefer other problems, mainly social and material.
The current situation on the front line leads to a decrease in the share of Bulgarians who believe that Russia will eventually win – in October, 20% of respondents think so, while in April 32% held this opinion.
The percentage of persons (39.7%) who believe that neither side can succeed in the conflict remains the same.
Two-thirds of Bulgarians (67.5%) declared their country's neutrality - both earlier and now. There are many reasons for this – sympathy for Russia and Putin's regime, fear of the globalization of the conflict, distrust of the ability of the Bulgarian state and NATO to defend the country in case of aggression.
16.3% want Bulgaria to support Ukraine, and 8.6% want Russia.
Every fourth Bulgarian (25.8%) has a positive attitude towards Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria. Every fifth (19%) is negative. More than half of respondents (55%) do not attach importance to this.
83.2% of respondents stated that they are more or less afraid of a global conflict between Russia and NATO and the Third World War. 78.3% fear the use of nuclear weapons.
69.9% say they are afraid of rocket and bomb attacks on Bulgarian facilities from Russia, and every second (56.3%) is afraid of the Russian occupation. However, only 3.4% of Bulgarians expressed their readiness in this case to join the army to protect the Motherland.
In six months, support for NATO membership in a hypothetical referendum has fallen by 8 points. For the first time since 2004, the shares of supporters and opponents of participation in the Alliance were almost equal - 31.1% versus 29.8%.
The share of people who will not vote, as well as those who do not have a clear position, is growing significantly – 39%.
More than half of Bulgarians say that the country as a NATO member should adhere to a policy of abstinence from activities (51.2%). Only a quarter (24.6%) believe that Bulgaria should practice full and active membership with all the obligations that follow from it.
