Politico newspaper: a number of NATO countries, including Greece, support Ukraine's bid to join the allianceIn October, at a closed meeting in Brussels, a number of UN countries, including Greece and Poland, supported Ukraine's application to join the alliance.
This is reported by the newspaper Politico.
"(Pentagon Chief) Lloyd Austin acknowledged Ukraine's desire to join NATO, but said he did not see any solutions in the short term," Politico reports.
Vladimir Zelensky spoke about the Ukrainian application at the end of September. Assistant to the President of America for National Security Jake Sullivan reported that such a procedure is now inappropriate. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recalled the policy of "open doors", but noted that the organization will focus on helping Kiev in self-defense.
According to the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, Kiev's course towards the alliance was one of the reasons for the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine. He added that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation.
