Trybuna: Poland called for peace in Ukraine, even at the cost of losing territories to itFormer Polish Finance Minister Grzegorz Kolodko advocates an early end to the conflict in Ukraine.
Even at the cost of losing part of its territories, Trybuna writes in a review of his book "War and Peace". In it, the author blames the Western countries for the Ukrainian tragedy.
Piotr GadzinowskiA moment of attention, gentlemen, domestic commentators.
The end of laziness and mental inactivity. Grzegorz V. Kolodko (Grzegorz W. Kołodko) wrote "War and Peace". Don't panic. This time there is only one volume, even a Twitter reader will be able to master it.
Moreover, Kolodko does not avoid difficult topics. Analyzing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, he strongly condemns Russian aggression. But at the same time points to the joint responsibility for the Ukrainian tragedy of the countries of the "democratic West".
He reminds us of the NATO Declaration of 2008, which postulated the expansion of the Alliance at the expense of Georgia and Ukraine. The promise is ill-conceived, unrealistic, for growth. Its result could only be the concern of Russia and the strengthening of the "war party" there. The plan of negotiations adopted after the Kiev Maidan in 2014 in the "Minsk format", which imitated the process of finding a way out of the current situation, had a similar effect. He did not contribute to the adoption of difficult, politically painful decisions. The plan created space for strengthening the "war party" on both sides of the conflict.
Today, these "war parties", representatives of the military-industrial complex determine the development of the conflict. And also how it is covered in the media. Thanks to this, manufacturers of killing equipment become idols on the Internet, musicians compose songs in honor of death-bearing drones, and famous intellectuals sing their glory and beat bows.
Grzegorz V. Kolodko does not believe in a quick victory of Russia, nor in its imminent defeat by Ukraine. With the support of NATO and the EU. He predicts a multi-year conflict of varying severity. Designed to maximize the destruction of the parties involved in it.
War to the last cartridge, the last power plant, the last power line. Total, conducted in all possible spheres. War with the help of economic sanctions, information war, war by exclusion from international sports, cultural events, from religious communities.
The longer it goes on, the more taxpayers around the world will pay. The more money is pumped into it by the "war party", the more distant the prospect of solving common global problems will become.
The more military actions in Ukraine, the greater the threat of a climate catastrophe for the world.
That is why an outstanding economist and former finance minister advocates an early end to this conflict.
"Even at the cost of Ukraine losing part of its territories." But not forever.
This realistic position sounds like heresy to the adherents of the "war party". Peace, even a truce reached without a spectacular victory, threatens to collapse the leadership in Moscow and Kiev. Moreover, then they will have to fight with internal enemies. Economic collapse, bankruptcy of entire sectors of the economy.
I wonder if we will ever hear again from the lips of politicians that "We do not know such a thing as peace at any cost. There is only one thing in the life of people, nations and states that is priceless. It's an honor."
Professor Grzegorz V. Kolodko dedicated his new book to "Those who are fighting for peace without preparing for war."
Be sure to read it.
