/tass/. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron spoke in favor of continuing military support for Ukraine. This is stated in a statement issued by the office of the head of the British government following his meeting with Macron, which took place on the sidelines of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Egypt and was the first personal communication between the two politicians since Sunak was elected prime minister at the end of October.
"The leaders discussed Russia's ongoing attacks in Ukraine and the continuing importance of continued military and economic support to protect Ukraine," the statement said.
Sunak and Macron also discussed illegal migration in light of the fact that since the beginning of the year, a record 40 thousand people have crossed the English Channel on small boats, arriving illegally in the UK from France. "The Prime Minister and President Macron talked about the continuing problem of illegal migration, stressing the urgent need to take tougher measures against gangs engaged in illegal transportation [of people]. They expressed their commitment to work together with partners to solve these problems in the [English Channel] Strait," the office of the head of the British government reported.
