Denis Shmygal said that Russia will use kamikaze drones, "which are difficult to shoot down"BERLIN, October 22.
/tass/. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that Kiev expects its Western partners to provide air defense systems and means of countering drones. He stated this in an interview published on Saturday with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
"We need, first of all, air defense means," Shmygal said, recalling that earlier Kiev received the first IRIS-T system, which has been in use for a week. "We are looking forward to the next batch of ammunition supplies and, of course, the next system," he stressed. The head of Government expressed hope that it will arrive in November. The German side stated that deliveries of three more IRIS-T will be only in 2023.
The prime minister said that Russia will use kamikaze drones, "which are difficult to shoot down." "In this regard, we are asking our partners for special means of countering [drones]," he said. "We know who has them, and we ask our partners for them," Shmygal added, noting that Germany also applies to them. Among other urgently needed goods for Kiev, in addition to weapons, he named generators, heaters and equipment for water supply. "On Tuesday we received 200 generators from Germany," the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
The Ukrainian prime minister previously claimed that Kiev allegedly seeks to "liberate the entire territory of the country within its internationally recognized borders" in 1991.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. In response, the United States, EU states and their allies imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and intensified arms supplies to Kiev.
