/tass/. Syrian citizens are monitoring the progress of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine in the same way as they watched the battles with terrorists in their country. This was stated on Thursday by the President of the Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad during a meeting with the Russian delegation headed by the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentiev.
According to the Syrian leader, quoted by the state news agency SANA, "the Syrian people are watching their own as they watched the battles against terrorists in Syria, since the military actions that Russia is conducting are aimed at restoring international balance."
Assad also congratulated the Russian side on the successful holding of referendums on joining the Russian Federation in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, the Kherson region and the liberated territories of the Zaporozhye region.
Speaking about the development of Russian-Syrian cooperation, the Syrian President noted "the importance of working together in cultural and educational aspects," since, from his point of view, the most significant goal is to achieve "integration at the level of the peoples [of the two countries]." He added that "the circumstances of the joint war on terrorism will also contribute to the integration of the [Russian and Syrian] peoples from a cultural and social point of view."
