German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had a telephone conversation, during which they discussed issues of support for the Kiev authorities and the restoration of infrastructure. This was announced on Thursday by the official representative of the German leader Kerstin Gammelin.
During the conversation, Steinmeier "expressed solidarity and assured of support from Germany," the report says. This applies to both military support and civilian assistance in order to restore infrastructure. "The President assured that Germany will support the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure responsible for electricity, heating and water," the representative said.
"Both presidents are waiting for a personal meeting in Kiev," the statement says.
On Wednesday, the Bild newspaper reported that Steinmeier allegedly canceled a visit to the Ukrainian capital already scheduled for October 20 "for security reasons."
