/tass/. The Japanese government, in its updated national security strategy, which is scheduled to be approved by the end of this year, intends to "describe the situation around Russia in harsh terms, taking into account the events in Ukraine." This was reported on Wednesday by the Kyodo news agency.
It is noted that this topic was discussed at the first meeting of the working group on the revision of the national security strategy on Wednesday, which included representatives from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito Party.
The Japanese government plans to approve an updated version of the national security strategy by the end of the year. It is expected that it will include, in particular, provisions on the need to increase defense spending, the acquisition and use of attack drones. Representatives of the ruling LDP are also actively promoting the discussion on the need to give the country's Self-Defense Forces the right to launch preventive strikes on the bases of a potential enemy intending to attack Japan. Touching upon the topic of increasing defense spending, the ruling LDP proposes to bring them, by analogy with NATO countries, to 2% of GDP, which is almost twice as much as it is now.
