TSAMTO, October 19. According to two informed sources of the Bloomberg agency, on October 18, Turkey conducted a test launch of the first short-range ballistic missile of national production over the Black Sea.
According to anonymous sources of the publication, the rocket was launched from an airport near the port city of Rize at about 7 a.m. local time from a mobile platform. According to them, the munition flew 561 km (350 miles) and fell off the coast near the port of Sinop. This is the longest distance that a rocket developed in Turkey has been able to overcome so far.
According to media reports, the classified missile project, dubbed "Typhoon" (Tayfun /Typhoon), has been implemented for several years. The Directorate of Defense Industry of Turkey (SSB), which oversees the development of national weapons systems, refused to disclose any information about the program.
According to the Turkish resource Savunmasanayist.com, the developer of the Typhoon missile is Roketsan, which previously implemented projects for the creation of the operational-tactical missile system (OTRK) J-600T Yildirim with a firing range of more than 150 km and Bora with a firing range of more than 280 km. Both complexes were adopted by the command of the Turkish Ground Forces. The Typhoon missile is structurally similar to the Bora OTR.
