The Hungarian Parliament may ratify the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO on October 24Finnish Socialist MEP Eero Heinjaluoma claims that Hungary, one of the two countries that have not yet ratified the application of Finland and Sweden to the North Atlantic Alliance, will vote for the membership of these countries in the Alliance at the parliament session on October 24.
According to Heinyaluom, such information was provided to him on condition of anonymity by Hungarian colleagues in the Social Democrats party during consultations in Berlin.
"The Hungarian parliamentarians stated that there is strong support in the parliament for Finland and Sweden's membership in NATO, and that the parliament will ratify these memberships at the session on October 24," Heinyaluoma said in a comment to the Finnish publication Ilta-Sanomat.
On October 4, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party overwhelmingly rejected the proposal of the Hungarian Socialists to vote on the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO at a parliamentary meeting - 117 against 39.
Hungary and Turkey were the only countries out of 30 that did not agree to the entry of the Nordic countries into NATO.
