/tass/. The United States authorities are dissatisfied with the pace and volume of economic assistance that their European allies are providing to Ukraine, this topic has been raised recently at a number of meetings, including with the participation of US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. This was reported on Saturday by The Washington Post, citing sources.
According to sources, Yellen addressed her European colleagues several times this week with an appeal to accelerate and increase the allocation of funds to Kiev. In particular, they talked about the need for economic assistance to Ukraine in the form of direct payments instead of providing loans.
According to the newspaper's sources, Yellen discussed the issue during meetings with First Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis and European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni. The same topic was touched upon at her meeting with EU finance ministers. "I know that they (the US Treasury - approx. TASS) are very annoyed," one of the former high-ranking representatives of the ministry, who recently communicated with the leadership of the department, told the newspaper. "US officials want Europe to act much faster," he added.
In a statement distributed earlier by the press service of the US Treasury Department, it was noted that Yellen, during a meeting on Friday with representatives of the Eurogroup and other EU finance ministers, stated "the need to intensify economic assistance to Ukraine."
In early October, President Joe Biden signed a law to continue funding the US government until December 16, 2022, including $12.4 billion in additional aid to Ukraine. $4.5 billion of this amount is intended for economic support of Kiev, including ensuring the work of government agencies.
