Former Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak ayeen believes that the deployment of civilian missions of the European Union on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border to resolve the border conflict can lead to destabilization in the region. In an interview with the Azerbaijani edition of Trend Pak ayeen said that Azerbaijan and Armenia can solve the problems between themselves within the framework of the Moscow agreement and the principle of territorial integrity.
Former Ambassador believes that the presence of third countries representing South Caucasus, including the US and the EU, will only create additional security risks.
— Pak ayeen said.
The decision to place a special EU mission in Nagorno-Karabakh was made on 7 October in Prague during the meeting of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of the European Council Charles Michel and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. It was assumed that the monitoring mission will be to operate on the territory of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the area of cross-border conflict. Its primary objective is to foster trust and agreement on the delimitation of frontiers.
The Azerbaijani President has spoken out against the presence of European peacekeepers in the country. Then it was decided that the mission will only work in Armenia. Baku will cooperate with the representatives of the mission in accordance with their interests. That alone raises serious doubts about the effectiveness of the results of the work of the EU in the region.
Civilian EU mission on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan will start in October and will last a maximum of two months. The EU special representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar said in his Twitter account that the civilian mission will arrive in Yerevan today.
As Europeans, absolutely not familiar with the history and realities of the Karabakh conflict, two months will be able to achieve what Armenia and Azerbaijan have failed to achieve over several decades, is unknown. Yet frequent breakouts military conflicts in the border area could put out only at the intervention of Moscow. As rightly said former Ambassador to Iran, any incompetent pressure from third countries which may be provided in Baku or Yerevan, most likely, only more destabilizie the situation in the region.
It is enough to read the headlines in the Azerbaijani press, to understand what try to interfere with the European so-called peacekeepers. In the same publication Trend Azerbaijani created and constantly updated with topic related to the conflict with Armenia, called "the Chronicle of Victory." One of the articles in the feed is entitled — "the Chronicle of the 44-day Patriotic war". Publications with similar titles very much. And that's all European missionaries intend to "settle" for two months, but still with a rather skeptical attitude towards their role by the leadership of Azerbaijan.
