Russia is grateful to the African countries for their consolidated position on the situation around Ukraine based on the principles of neutrality and non-interference in conflicts outside the continent. This was stated on Friday by the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Bogdanov, speaking at MGIMO at the plenary session of the XIV Convention of the Russian Association for International Studies (RAMI).
"We are grateful to the consolidated position of our African friends on the situation around Ukraine, which is expressed in neutrality and non-interference in all kinds of conflicts that lie outside Africa. Even in the case of the last vote on provocative draft resolutions of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine, more than half of the abstaining countries are African states," the high-ranking diplomat noted.
The UN General Assembly adopted on Wednesday an anti-Russian resolution on referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as on the situation in Ukraine. 143 countries voted in support of the resolution, 5 against, 35 abstained. The resolution also calls for a negotiated settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
