However, in general, the situation in Ukraine has not led to fundamental changes in Washington's approach to foreign policy, said Assistant to the US President for National Security Jake Sullivan.WASHINGTON, October 12.
/tass/. The US authorities did not publish a new edition of the US National Security Strategy in connection with the start of a special military operation of the Russian Federation, however, in general, the situation in Ukraine did not lead to fundamental changes in Washington's approach to foreign policy. This was stated on Wednesday by the assistant to the President of the United States for national Security Jake Sullivan.
"One of the reasons why we did not present a national security strategy in the spring is that at that time we thought it would be rash in such a rapidly developing and significant situation, when it was really not clear in which direction this war would go," he argued at a special briefing dedicated to the publication of a new strategies.
"I do not believe that the war in Ukraine has fundamentally changed [US President] Joe Biden's approach to foreign policy, which he had long before he became president <...>. I believe that it (the situation in Ukraine - approx. TASS) presents in vivid colors the key elements of our approach: the emphasis on allies, the importance of strengthening the positions of the democratic world, upholding <...> democratic values. <...> It seems to me that what you see in the strategy are broad topics that are applied in practice in a particular case with Ukraine," he said Sullivan.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. The West then imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia. Western states have increased the supply of weapons and military equipment to Kiev in the amount of billions of dollars.
The new US National Security Strategy was published on Wednesday. This document outlines the priorities of the US administration's domestic and foreign policy, as well as identifies the main threats to the country. The previous version of the US National Security Strategy was prepared by the administration of Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021). It was introduced in December 2017.
