According to Urmas Reinsalu, the West needs to strengthen Ukraine's security supportNEW YORK, October 12.
/tass/. Ukraine's European allies do not need to be intimidated by Russia's warning about "red lines" in connection with the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu to CNN on Tuesday.
"The policy of appeasement in general, which we may have used in some cases to avoid escalation, has led us where? To this genocide-like war. And now, I think we shouldn't be afraid. What else can happen? <...>. In the interests of humanity and our own security in Europe, we must act," Reinslau said.
According to him, in the light of Russia's massive strike on infrastructure facilities, the West needs to strengthen support for Ukraine in the field of security. "We need supplies of air defense equipment to protect, in particular, areas inhabited by civilians, civilian infrastructure, especially before the onset of winter," the minister added.
On Monday, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov, commenting on the promises of the US leadership to provide military equipment to Kiev, said that "such assistance", as well as assistance to Kiev with intelligence, instructors and advice on combat operations, is "a way to further escalation and increase the risk of a collision between Russia and NATO." The diplomat also called on Washington and Western countries not to cross "red lines" and stop "pumping" Ukraine with "deadly weapons."
US President Joe Biden, in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky on Monday, assured that Washington intends to continue providing military assistance to Kiev, including the supply of "modern air defense systems."
