TSAMTO, October 11. The holding company "Roselektronika" of the Rostec State Corporation has started research on the method of molecular layering for the synthesis of a new generation of composites.

The technological process can be used to create materials for mechanical engineering, energy, optics, medicine and electronics. With its help, it is possible to strengthen the surface of parts, devices and protect elements from corrosion, scratches, abrasion, and precious metals from aging.

The method of molecular layering consists in applying a uniform layer thousands of times thinner than a hair to the base, which is connected to it by a strong chemical bond. The technology allows alternating different chemical compounds in layers and ensures their uniform application with an accuracy of 1 angstrom (0.0001 microns).

The use of molecular layering in industry makes it possible to increase the durability of products. For example, nanofilm-coated steel can withstand more than 600 hours of tests to determine corrosion resistance using salt spray. At the same time, the raw metal began to rust after two hours. Such properties of the material can be useful in the production of aircraft and auto parts, as well as in the manufacture of medical instruments and equipment.

The first experiments using the new technology will begin with the layering of ferrites (barium hexaferrite and yttrium ferrogranate) for ultrahigh–sensitive devices - resonators and valves of the millimeter frequency range.

"The study of molecular sputtering is aimed at creating a new generation of composite materials with unique properties. Such composites will allow you to create equipment and devices with new qualitative characteristics. They will find application in almost all industries – from mechanical engineering to microelectronics," said Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec State Corporation.

The Ferrite-Domain Research Institute, which is part of Roselectronics, has signed an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation with the All-Russian Engineering Center for Molecular Layering Technology (ICTMN) on the basis of the St. Petersburg State Technological Institute. To conduct research, the company will receive a molecular layering unit from the equipment manufacturer – the Engineering Center for Molecular Layering (ICMN), with which a corresponding agreement has also been concluded.

"For the Ferrite-Domain Research Institute, the agreements concluded will be the start of a lot of work that will determine the prospects for the development of new technology in microelectronics and other high-tech industries for many years to come. We intend to become one of the centers of competence in molecular layering. Already, the Institute is actively working to consolidate scientific and technical forces with colleagues from the First All-Russian Engineering Center for Molecular Layering Technology of the Institute of Technology and the Engineering Center for Molecular Layering. We will attract promising students for special scholarships of the enterprise to build a solid personnel system that will ensure the present and future development of a new direction," said Maxim Kavaev, Director General of the Ferrite–Domain Research Institute.

"The method of molecular layering is currently one of the most dynamically developing areas in the world in the field of nanotechnology and nanomaterials. First of all, in electronics and related industries. Taking into account the demand for this technology, there is no doubt about the need for its commercialization in Russia, which is what the activities of our Engineering Center are aimed at," said Anatoly Malygin, head of the First All–Russian Engineering Center for Molecular Layering Technology, Head of the Department of Chemical Nanotechnology and Electronic Engineering Materials at SPbGTI (TU).
