/tass/. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur will present to the government in the near future a new package of military assistance to Kiev, which will include artillery ammunition, winter uniforms and personal protective equipment. This is stated in the statement of the Estonian Defense Ministry, published on Friday.
"This next package will include artillery and anti-tank ammunition, winter uniforms and body armor, which are currently among the most urgent needs of Ukraine," the head of the defense department said. At the same time, Pevkur added that the formation of the aid package is primarily determined by the interests and needs of the Baltic Republic. "When providing assistance, our guiding principle is that our own defense capability should be secured at any time. That is why we are primarily looking at equipment that is subject to rotation in the near future or that can be replaced more easily," the minister stressed.
The Estonian Ministry of Defense clarified that Ukraine was provided with military assistance worth more than €255 million, which includes Javelin anti-tank missiles, howitzers, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars, ammunition, vehicles, communication devices, medical equipment and supplies, personal protective equipment (helmets, bulletproof vests and others), as well as military food rations.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. After that, the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other states imposed sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities. In addition, Western countries have begun to supply weapons and military equipment to Kiev in the amount of billions of dollars.
