On October 1, the Ministry of Defense of Russia showed a video recording showing the work of calculations of the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) "Hurricane" of the Eastern Military District in the zone of a special operation to protect Donbass.
The calculations of the Hurricane MLRS are designed to perform fire tasks to eliminate the positions of the Armed forces of Ukraine (AFU). With the help of combat vehicles, Russian artillery units hit enemy defenses at any time of the day, destroy military equipment and suppress control points.
The work of the "Hurricanes" begins with the fact that they leave the place of shelter and go to the firing points. The calculations set the guns according to the coordinates and launch high-explosive ammunition of 220 mm caliber. Then they quickly leave the firing point and remain unnoticed by the APU.
The system can hit targets on the front line and in the depth of the enemy's defense line at a distance of up to 40 km. Such a flight range requires taking into account not only the trajectory, but also weather conditions.
"The shells of the Hurricane fly away for several tens of kilometers. In order to accurately work out the target, it is necessary to calculate it correctly — take into account weather data, pressure, wind speed and air temperature. Then it's all calculated. We coordinate the car, and it does its job," explained the squad commander Mikhail.
After the MLRS has received all the necessary data, the calculation is connected to the work, which should quickly and accurately aim, shoot back, and then change position in a timely manner.
The "hurricane" needs space, a place to move around. For example, I worked out one goal, rolled to another place, worked out quickly there. Everything depends, of course, to a greater extent on the coherence of calculations. The equipment has proven itself well," said the commander of the combat vehicle Vasily.
The combat vehicle hits the target, after which it moves from the combat to the marching position. The calculations are rapidly leaving the firing points, leaving the enemy no time to respond. The effectiveness of the equipment is evidenced by the actions of the Ukrainian troops. According to the Russian military, the enemy artillery tries to work covertly, but most often their actions do not remain without a proper response.
On October 1, the Defense Ministry also told about the work of the calculations of the 203-mm self-propelled gun 2S7M "Malka" of the artillery unit of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of Russia, which continue to successfully perform tasks during the special operation to protect the population of Donbass.
Russia continues the special operation to protect Donbass, which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. A few days earlier, the situation in the region had significantly worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also appealed to Moscow for help. On February 21, the Russian leader signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and the LPR.
On September 30, Putin signed agreements on the incorporation of the DPR and LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation.
