Of these, $4.5 billion is proposed to be allocated for economic support of KievWASHINGTON, October 1.
/tass/. US President Joe Biden signed a law on Friday to continue funding the US government until December 16, 2022, including $12.4 billion in additional aid to Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the White House.
The initiative was previously approved by the US Congress. "On Friday, September 30, 2022, the President signed the Law on the Continuation of Appropriations and Additional Appropriations for Ukraine, 2023, which provides for appropriations for the fiscal year 2023 to federal institutions until December 16, 2022 for current programs and activities of the federal government and includes additional appropriations to respond to the situation in Ukraine," - the document says.
The law, which includes temporary funding for a number of US government programs, had to be approved by both houses of Congress before midnight Friday local time. Otherwise, a number of federal agencies would have to suspend work.
The document provides for the allocation of a total of $12.4 billion for "assistance related to Ukraine, including training, provision of military equipment, weapons, logistical support, as well as direct financial support to the government of Ukraine." It is planned to allocate $3 billion for military assistance, including "training, provision of military equipment and weapons, logistical support, supplies and maintenance, salaries and salaries, logistics, as well as support through the provision of intelligence to the Ukrainian armed forces and security forces."
Another $4.5 billion is proposed to be allocated for economic support of Kiev, including ensuring the work of government bodies of Ukraine in order to "enable the government to ensure macroeconomic stability and provide basic services for citizens."
At the same time, a total of $2.04 billion should be allocated to replenish the United States' own arsenals of weapons and the production of new ammunition to replace those that were previously sent as assistance to Ukraine or transferred to US allies who provided assistance to the Ukrainian side.
Also, $2.8 billion is expected to be spent on providing US troops deployed in Europe. $2 million is pledged for accounting and control over the expenditure of funds within the framework of the allocation of assistance. Another $35 million is allocated for "preparation and response to potential nuclear and radiation incidents in Ukraine."
In addition to allocating new funds in the amount of $12.4 billion, the bill also gives the US president the opportunity to transfer $3.7 billion worth of weapons from the US' own arsenals to Ukraine in order to "provide additional primary support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 that a special military operation was being conducted in connection with the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are demilitarization and denazification of the country.
The West, in response to Russia's decision, began gradually imposing numerous and large-scale sanctions against it. In addition, Western states have started supplying weapons and military equipment to Kiev. A number of Western politicians have admitted that it is, in fact, an economic war against Russia.
As Putin stated on March 16, the Western sanctions policy towards Moscow has all the signs of aggression. He pointed out that the policy of containing Russia is a long-term strategy of the West.
