The decision was made following a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine against the background of the signing by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of agreements on the accession of these regions to the Russian Federation.
Earlier, Ukraine had already applied to NATO - in 2008. In May, the Ukrainian authorities noted that it remains active and did not respond.
