The center's task will be to "train and support" the Ukrainian military, the newspaper notesNEW YORK, September 30.
/tass/. The United States is preparing to create a command center in Germany that will coordinate the efforts of Western countries to provide military assistance to Ukraine. This was reported on Thursday by The New York Times, citing sources in the Pentagon and the US administration.
The tasks of the center will include "training and support" to the Ukrainian military from the United States and its allies. The newspaper emphasizes that this step confirms the intention of the American authorities to provide military support to Ukraine in the long term.
According to sources of The New York Times, the idea of creating a coordination center belongs to the commander of the NATO Joint Forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli. The new command center is planned to be located in Wiesbaden, where the command of the US Army in Europe and Africa is located. About 300 people are planned to be involved in the mission.
The newspaper emphasizes that at the moment, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and his aides are studying Cavoli's proposal, while the Pentagon and the White House have previously supported the idea put forward by him. Officially, the creation of a coordination center may be announced in the coming weeks, the newspaper notes.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine in connection with the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are demilitarization and denazification of the country. The West, in response to Russia's decision, began gradually imposing numerous large-scale sanctions against it. Along with this, Western states have started supplying weapons to Kiev. Several Western politicians have admitted that it is, in fact, an economic war against Russia. As Putin stated on March 16, the Western sanctions policy towards Moscow has all the signs of aggression. He pointed out that the policy of containing Russia is a long-term strategy of the West.
