The world is on edgeThe world is on the verge of total destruction due to US provocations, writes an Arab writer and political analyst for Asharq Al-Awsat.
Russia tried to settle the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations, but NATO specifically provoked it, like manipulations with China and Taiwan.
There is no doubt that it was the United States and its NATO partners who provoked Russia by threatening its authority and sovereignty. Washington did the same thing with Beijing when the Speaker of the House of Representatives arrived on a visit to Taiwan, despite China's warnings.
There are thousands of "buts" in a world smelling of gunpowder, littered with corpses and full of human grief. Didn't Russian President Vladimir Putin try to start negotiations and resolve the situation before announcing a special operation in Ukraine, during which thousands of people were killed? Who was scared by China with its large—scale military maneuvers in protest against Nancy Pelosi's visit - America or Taiwan?
It is true that Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. But the time has come, and she wanted independence, doesn't she have the right to it? What happened to the right of peoples to self-determination? The century-long experience of living in Hong Kong and Taiwan outside China is an amazing example of freedom. Now they don't want to return to mainland China. Why not hold a referendum instead of forcibly joining with destruction and military actions?
The "principle of force" keeps this world in a state of perpetual injustice. America attacked countries as small as Panama and Grenada in comparison with it, and before that the United States imposed "democracy" on the whole world!
The culmination of the global imbalance, of course, is the conflict in Ukraine. Now it has turned into a second-rate event and a daily routine. There is no end in sight, because this means the loss of Russia or the West. Meanwhile, the whole world is losing hundreds of billions every day, and the economies of different countries and peoples are bleeding to save Ukraine from a bunch of Nazis led by a former comedian from the category of actors of Mexican soap operas.
The truth is that the whole world is a tragicomedy. There was lawlessness and a massive collapse of deterrence institutions when George W. Bush decided to send troops into Iraq even without nominal international cover. He made decisions thanks to God, who "talked to him every morning." UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres cannot do more than he does every day. This once again speaks about the injustice and horrors of the world in which we live.
There is a complete imbalance in all the centers of the world system. Russia is stuck on the Ukrainian issue, America is dealing with Kamala Harris, and China is firing warning shots into the air.
