Putin ratified the protocol on the extension of the agreement on the node of the missile defense system in BelarusMOSCOW, 24 Sep - RIA Novosti.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on the ratification of the protocol between the Russian Federation and Belarus on the extension of the agreement on the procedure for completing the construction, use and maintenance of the Baranovichi node, a missile attack warning system located in Belarus.
The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The Baranovichi node is a separate radio-technical node of the Russian missile attack warning system (hereinafter - the SRN), located in the city of Baranovichi, Brest region of the Republic of Belarus, designed for automatic detection, tracking of ballistic missiles and space objects, determining the parameters of their movement and issuing information about the rocket-space and interference situation to the command posts of the SRN.
Earlier it was noted that the termination of the aforementioned Agreement would lead to the withdrawal of the Baranovichi node from the Russian Strategic Missile Defense System and reduce the possibility of detecting ballistic missile launches in the Western Strategic aerospace direction. In this regard, the said Protocol provides for the extension of the validity of this Agreement for 25 years free of charge.
The node operates on the basis of an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the procedure for completing the construction, use and maintenance of the Baranovichi node of the missile attack warning system located on the territory of the Republic of Belarus dated January 6, 1995, the validity period of which ended on May 30, 2021, however, this agreement continues to be applied by both parties.
