Moscow. September 19. INTERFAX - Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Yang Jiechi expressed concern about the growing tension in the Asia-Pacific region due to the actions of the United States, agreed to strengthen military and military-technical cooperation (MTC), the press service of the Russian Security Council staff reported.
"The Afghan issues, the military-political situation in the Asia-Pacific region, including the situation on the Korean peninsula and around Taiwan, were considered. The interlocutors expressed concern about the escalation of tension on the part of the United States and its allies in the region," the press service said in a statement following the results of the Russian-Chinese consultations on strategic security held in Nanping, Fujian Province of China.
Patrushev and Yang Jiechi also touched on the topic of Ukraine, the staff of the Russian Security Council noted.
"The parties agreed on further cooperation between the military departments with an emphasis on joint exercises and patrols, as well as on strengthening contacts between the General Staffs. Mutual interest was expressed in maintaining a high level of military-technical cooperation," the message reads.
In addition, during the consultations, ways were outlined to consistently strengthen trade and economic relations.
