Alexis Tsipras said that his SYRIZA-PA party, if it comes to power in the elections in 2023, intends to change the role of the republic in the geopolitical arenaATHENS, September 18.
/tass/. Greece, by sending weapons to Ukraine, becomes part of the crisis around this country. This opinion was expressed on Saturday evening by the leader of the main opposition party, the Coalition of Radical Left Forces - Progressive Alliance (SYRIZA-PA), former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in a speech at the 86th Thessaloniki International Exhibition.
He said that his party intends to change the role of Greece in the geopolitical arena if it comes to power in the elections in 2023. "We are here to improve the country's position in the international geopolitical arena again. Not as an advanced and unprotected outpost of the West, a country that sends weapons to Ukraine and becomes part of the crisis, but as a force for peace and stability. A bridge, not an outpost," Tsipras said, quoted by the Vima newspaper.
According to the politician, Greece should become "a country capable of defending its sovereignty at any moment, without loud and empty words, but with strategic and active diplomacy, <...> without a dead-end arms race, but using international law, its position in the EU and its international alliances." "So, we are here to make everyone [in the country] feel safe again," Tsipras said.
SYRIZA-PA, as well as the ruling New Democracy party of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, does not support Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.
