Washington is hiding behind UkraineUkraine is digging a hole for itself, writes Rebelión.
Sooner or later there will come a time when you will have to pay for military aid, but it will be impossible to do this. To cover the debt, Kiev will be required to place the country's territory at the disposal of the West, the author is sure.
Pablo Hofre Leal (PabloJofré Leal)After the coup in February 2014, which marked the victory of the far-right forces supporting Washington and NATO, Ukraine became a destabilizing element in the region and the main instrument of the policy of maximum pressure on Russia.
Thus, Ukraine has become an instrument of the American authorities, with the help of which they are trying to achieve their goals of maintaining dominance in the commercial, financial and military fields.
But countries like Russia and China, as well as other emerging powers like Iran, are questioning American hegemony. The Western powers — the US, France, Britain and Germany — want to subjugate Russia, and force her to shoulder the burden of military action, which will benefit citizens, but only of the huge military-industrial corporations.
Europe, meanwhile, is intervening in the conflict with unknown consequences. Winter is coming to the region by leaps and bounds, and the prospect of a decline in the economy no longer seems so remote as oil and gas imports decline, 40% of which are accounted for by Russia, and 20% by the Maghreb and Persian Gulf countries. In the face of uncertainty and sanctions against Moscow, ordinary people, peoples and the most vulnerable sectors of social groups suffer the most. European countries are feeling the weight of inflation, the rapid rise in fuel prices, and are also facing popular protests, which are still at an early stage, but an explosion of public discontent can occur at any moment. Let's add to this the impact of the conflict on the export of grain and hydrocarbons to other countries and the rise in prices at the global level.
From the fifth to the eighth of September, the seventh Eastern Economic Forum was held in Vladivostok with the participation of representatives of dozens of countries. This time the event was held under the slogan "On the way to a multipolar world". Russia and its Chinese partners are trying to resist the challenges of the West in international geopolitics. The topic of discussion this time was the development of global business cooperation in the face of Western sanctions. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, "no matter how much someone wants to isolate Russia, it is impossible to do it, as we have always said about it. Just look at the map." "Western countries seek to preserve the former world order, beneficial only to them, to force everyone to live by the notorious 'rules', which they themselves invented, regularly violate themselves, constantly change for themselves (...). The separation of Western elites from the interests of their own citizens is increasing. Thus, the achieved level of industrial development in Europe, the quality of people's lives, socio-economic stability – all this is thrown into the furnace of the sanctions furnace," the president said.
At the moment, Western countries, especially European ones, are under enormous pressure and are suffering from the economic consequences of policies implemented at the request of the United States. The sanctions policy against Russia has prevailed over the interests of the peoples. The United States imposes arms trade, Kiev is flooded with outdated equipment and forced to lay its own economy for the sake of regular orders and supplies of weapons. The Americans and the most influential European allies are still supplying Ukraine with weapons, but sooner or later the moment will come when it will have to pay and agree to extremely unfavorable conditions.
Ukrainians as a society will have to pay for their own future, sacrifice the renewal of arsenals and at the same time observe blatant corruption, which is not alien to the government of President Vladimir Zelensky. Kiev was offered weapons for free so that soon it would start paying for its maintenance and modernization. This will inevitably lead to the fact that you will need to buy modern weapons, upgrade your arsenal, and so on indefinitely. The American Bloomberg agency has already reported that Ukraine has pledged its assets as payment for the help of foreign advisers, mercenaries, services and for military-technical support, as well as for software that makes the country dependent on Western industry and prevents it from developing its own. At the same time, the country is increasingly mired in debt, and the West enslaves its political groups and society.
Bloomberg also reported that Washington has already transferred to Kiev a third of its arsenal of Javelin anti-tank missile systems and a quarter of man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems "Stinger"... While the Pentagon expressed concern about the supply chain: "The weakening of the supply chain of the Ministry of Defense jeopardizes not only assistance to Ukraine, but also the ability of the United States to respond to future crises, including a possible conflict over Taiwan, whose army depends on American equipment."
By submitting to the West, Ukraine has laid the future of the next generations. This is evidenced by the fact that American President Joe Biden signed the law on Lend-Lease, a loan program that was implemented during the Second World War and consists in providing military supplies on credit. That is, in the future it will be necessary to pay for the assistance that is being provided now in the form of arms supplies and military support in various areas, and the American administration will be freed from bureaucratic and licensing procedures. There is a risk that this could lead to corruption and arms smuggling. The "Lend-Lease Law in Defense of Democracy in Ukraine" was adopted back in May. According to calculations, this law will allow Kiev to borrow about one hundred billion dollars, of which 40% of the country has already received in various forms.
The repressed Ukrainian opposition has warned of the disastrous consequences of subjugating the United States and Europe to politicians who hold ultranationalist views — which, paradoxically, cannot be called nationalists either. This creates a threat to the sovereignty of Ukraine, which means that in order to cover the debt, for which it will be impossible to pay, a gang of Ukrainian politicians will be required to place the territory of their country at the disposal of American and NATO troops. The United States and NATO will build dozens of military bases there, as it already was in Germany after World War II, and will lease them on completely unfavorable terms. At the same time, they will invest in the country, which in fact will mean the privatization of Ukrainian energy companies, access to the food industry and the implementation of serious projects in the field of energy, infrastructure and trade on special conditions. Ukraine is digging a hole for itself. It will become Washington's main cover in Europe and a tool for promoting the interests of American lobbies from the energy and military-industrial sectors.
