/tass/. Calculations of the Nebo-IED radar station (radar) during a special operation in Ukraine detect up to 30 different-sized air objects daily, including missiles fired by American multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) HIMARS. This was announced by the head of the radar station Ivan.
"It can simultaneously accompany up to 250 targets, in everyday mode we observe from 20 to 30 targets. We detect the target, carry out recognition, identification and transmission of radar information to a higher command post. Three turns of the station, and the target is identified. <...> We are observing Su-25, Su-24 aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, unmanned aerial vehicles of various types, HIMARS-type missiles of American production," the serviceman said in a video distributed on Friday by the Russian Defense Ministry.
The Russian military department showed footage of the combat work of the calculations of the Nebo-IED radar and the air defense command post of the Central Military District (CVO) in the special operation zone. Military personnel of the radio engineering troops of the Central Military District carry out continuous monitoring of the airspace. The uncovered coordinates of air targets are sent to the command post, where a decision is made on the defeat and target designation is issued to the calculations of launchers.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the radar calculation is able to detect targets operating at a distance of more than 400 km. The high detection range allows the radar to regularly provide target coordinates to combat calculations of anti-aircraft missile systems, while remaining out of the affected area. In addition, a combat security group has been organized in the area of the station's duty, which, in case of an attack, will eliminate the enemy's sabotage group.
The command of the Central Military District notes the high efficiency of the military personnel of the radio engineering troops.
M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is a highly mobile MLRS developed by the American company Lockheed Martin. More than 20 types of ammunition have been created for the installation, the firing range of which, depending on the type, can range from 30-80 (in MLRS mode) to 300 km or more (as an operational-tactical missile system).
