According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany's position is that the country will not take unilateral steps on the issue of arms supplies to UkraineBERLIN, September 14.
/tass/. Germany cannot make decisions on the supply of offensive weapons to Ukraine without looking at its NATO partners. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock in an interview published on Wednesday with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
"As for modern combat tanks, this can only be decided together - within the framework of the ruling coalition and at the international level. Nevertheless, in the crucial phase in which Ukraine is now, I do not think that this is a decision that needs to be postponed for a long time," she said.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke similarly on Wednesday after talks in Berlin with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. According to him, Germany's position, as before, is that the country will not take unilateral steps on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine.
According to an earlier report by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Germany has already supplied Ukraine with military goods worth €686 million. Thus, Ukraine has become the most important recipient of German weapons among non-NATO and non-alliance partners.
