According to Denis Alipov, "India's position cannot be called pro-Russian"NEW DELHI, September 14.
/tass/. The West is exerting powerful pressure on India on the verge of blackmail due to its balanced position on the Ukrainian crisis. This was stated in an interview with TASS on Wednesday by the Russian Ambassador to New Delhi Denis Alipov.
He recalled that "India is well acquainted with the genesis of the Ukrainian crisis, therefore, since 2014, after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, New Delhi adheres to balanced positions." "The Indians are in favor of a settlement based on dialogue, diplomacy, international law and, most importantly, taking into account the interests of all parties, including in the security sphere," the diplomat said.
"This is worthy of respect, especially given the powerful Western pressure exerted on the country on the verge of blackmail. Against this background, New Delhi is trying to abstain [when voting] on anti-Russian resolutions in the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council, in which India has the status of a non-permanent member in 2021-2022. Does not join the calls of the West to condemn Russia," Alipov stressed.
At the same time, the ambassador noted that "India's position cannot be called pro-Russian." "It largely takes into account various nuances, including its own scale of security challenges and ties with a wide range of states, including Western ones. In other words, it is pro-Indian and reflects India's own interests. Another thing is that the basic principles on which our countries build international relations and strategic objectives are close or coincide," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in New Delhi explained.
He stressed that Moscow maintains a close dialogue with its Indian partners, explains various aspects of the crisis, and provides reasoned information about Russia's assessments of the events taking place and the real state of affairs. According to him, there is a "good level of mutual understanding" between the two countries.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, the goal is demilitarization and denazification of the country. India has taken a neutral position towards this conflict, which has caused discontent in a number of Western capitals.
