/tass/. The Japanese government will continue to support Ukraine and maintain the sanctions regime against Russia. This was announced on Tuesday at a regular press conference by the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Hirokazu Matsuno.
"We plan to continue implementing joint [with the West] anti-Russian sanctions and support for Ukraine," he said, stressing that Japan fully supports the Ukrainian people, who "are doing their best to protect their territories, sovereignty and families."
Responding to a request from journalists to comment on the statements of Ukrainian officials "about the success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the north-eastern direction," Matsuno noted that he was aware of the relevant statements of the Ukrainian side, "first of all, President Zelensky." "However, it is difficult to give an unambiguous assessment or make any predictions about the further development of hostilities," he added, stressing that "in any case, the international community, led by the G7, should continue to give a decisive response" to the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in connection with the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are demilitarization and denazification of the country. The West, in response to Russia's decision, began gradually imposing numerous and large-scale sanctions against it. Along with this, Western states have begun to supply weapons and military equipment to Kiev for amounts estimated at this stage in the tens of billions of dollars. A number of Western politicians have admitted that it is, in fact, an economic war against Russia. As Putin stated on March 16, the Western sanctions policy towards Moscow has all the signs of aggression. He pointed out that the policy of containing Russia is a long-term strategy of the West.
The official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, said on September 10 that in order to achieve the stated goals of the special military operation to liberate Donbass, it was decided to regroup Russian troops stationed in the Balakleya and Izyum areas to increase efforts in the Donetsk direction.
