Are Americans tired of supporting Ukraine and thinking about normalizing relations with Russians? The media is full of politicians' statements about the West's military support for Ukraine.
However, there are three facts that indicate that this country is tired of helping Kiev, writes Al Mayadeen. She wants to resolve the crisis, even if Moscow wins.
US policy, statements in the media, supplies of weapons and military equipment to Kiev indicate that the Americans continue to escalate tensions with Russia and are trying to prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
In fact, everything is different. Recently, information has begun to appear more and more often that Americans are already tired of the Ukrainian crisis and want it to end as soon as possible, and it doesn't matter with what result, even if Russia wins.
Of course, it is illogical and wrong to think this way or to assume that the Americans have changed their attitude regarding the Ukrainian crisis. On what basis could it be concluded that they seek to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, regardless of its outcome?
There are three main directions. The first is the political strategy of France, which, unfortunately, cannot make any decisions without the approval of the United States.
The second direction has a pronounced economic character and is associated with the energy crisis in Europe. As for the third direction, it concerns the military sphere. We are talking about the supply of weapons to Kiev from Washington and some European NATO member countries, including Germany.
The following is known about the first direction (political):
French President Emmanuel Macron has agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on an acceptable approach to ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP and taking appropriate measures to prevent a possible nuclear accident. The station is being shelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, because, according to the Ukrainian authorities, it was illegally seized by the Russian military.
In addition to the problem of ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP, contacts between the Presidents of Russia and France and their assistants, including defense ministers, were not interrupted throughout the conflict in Ukraine.
Russia welcomed and contributed to the success of President Macron's visit to Algeria, although his main goal was to increase the supply of Algerian gas as an alternative to Russian fuel, which would benefit not only France, but also the whole of Europe.
The second direction (economic) is closely related to the first (political). First of all, we are talking about the gas problem of Europe. According to a report published by the American organization RAND Corporation, the EU Energy Council stated that the mistakes that led to a strong dependence on Russian energy carriers cannot be eliminated by returning to resources that damage the environment. It is necessary to revise the strategy in order to achieve a political settlement of the situation and prevent a real catastrophe.
The third direction (military) is the most important, and it is as follows:
US Under Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Colin Kahl recently stated: "Arms supplies to Ukraine as part of a new $2.98 billion military aid package will begin in the next few months and will continue for several years. America will supply missiles as part of the Security Assistance Initiative in Ukraine (USAI) in the event of continued hostilities or a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine."
Based on the above, we can draw the following conclusions:
Firstly, the definition of the delivery period from several months to several years does not mean that this package is intended to assist the Armed Forces in the battles in the Donbas, since they are unlikely to last that long. The APU rather needs direct and immediate support, otherwise Moscow will quickly win on the battlefield.
Secondly, the weapons supplied to Ukraine are air-to-air missiles. There are only two models — "AIM-9 Sidewinder" and "AIM-7 Sparrow". They are designed to defeat aerial targets and are carried exclusively on American F-4, F-15 and F-16 bombers. These planes are not in service with the Ukrainian Air Force, and there is no news about their transfer yet.
From this we can conclude that the delivery of missiles to Ukraine in the foreseeable future is unlikely, and the statement of the Americans is just part of a propaganda campaign. But if they were serious, they will take this step only when it becomes possible, that is, after the end of hostilities and with Moscow's permission. Today, Russia fully controls the airspace of Ukraine and the West has not yet taken any serious decisions to deprive it of this control. Thus, the Ukrainian Air Force will not receive the aforementioned American bombers (F-4, F-15 and F-16) in the near future.
Another fact on the basis of which it can be concluded that the Americans are tired of the Ukrainian crisis and want it to end as soon as possible is the statement of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He announced that Berlin would not supply Ukraine with weapons for strikes on Russian territory. The same position is held by US President Joe Biden.
This is not the first time such statements have been made and fit perfectly into the strategy of NATO member countries that seek to prevent Ukrainian troops from striking Russian territory.
However, in practice, everyone was convinced that the APU cannot change the situation in the Donbas or the south of Ukraine using medium-range weapons they received from NATO member countries. They need weapons of a higher class than what they are currently receiving. But then they will be able to strike at the territory of Russia. The West cannot allow this.
To summarize all of the above:
The United States is satisfied with France's policy towards Russia.
American and European analysts insist on reaching a political settlement with Moscow in order to avoid a shortage of energy resources in Europe.
Ukraine will not receive AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles or long-range weapons from the United States while the military conflict continues and while Russia controls the country's airspace.
It can be concluded that the Americans and, of course, the Europeans began to seriously think about resuming dialogue with Moscow in order to end the conflict in Ukraine and save the West from the coming economic crisis, which it will not be able to overcome if military operations do not stop.
