Ukraine needs the Army TACtical Missile System (ATACMS) tactical ballistic missiles, as the latter will allow strikes against Russian targets in the Donbas. Kiev's need for new weapons is explained by Defense News.
"The provision of ATACMS by the United States will allow Kiev to strike at key logistics hubs and other important facilities that are beyond Ukraine's current capabilities for precision strikes," the publication claims.
It is noted that ATACMS are capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers, which is three times higher than the range of use of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) available in Ukraine. The publication claims that these missiles will be effective against the objects of the Russian Navy (Navy) in the Crimea.
The authors of the publication are confident that ATACMS will be able to be effective against Russian S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, railway stations and bridges.
According to the authors of the article, Washington's concerns about the possible provision to Kiev are exaggerated, since "Moscow's reaction to the supply of advanced Western military systems to Ukraine has so far brought a lot of barking, but little sharpness."
In August, retired US Brigadier General Mark Arnold called on the United States and NATO to transfer weapons to Kiev that would allow them to strike deep into Russia and give permission for their use.
