According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, this item of expenditure cost the country's budget $11.4 billion KIEV, August 23.
/tass/. Since the end of February this year, the Ukrainian authorities have allocated more than 420 billion hryvnias (about $11.4 billion) for military spending. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal at a government meeting on Tuesday.
According to him, the total budget expenditures for this period have almost reached UAH 1 trillion (more than $27 billion). "Of these, more than 420 billion hryvnias were spent on the defense and security of our country. That is, more than 40% of everything we spent from the state budget is the needs of the army. UAH 288 billion - for military salaries, UAH 135 billion - for the purchase and repair of military equipment, the purchase of ammunition and defense products," he said.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported on August 15 that the country's parliament voted to increase military spending by 270 billion hryvnia ($7.3 billion), including through the issue of money. According to him, the total budget expenditures of Ukraine on security and defense in 2022 now amount to 1.2 trillion hryvnia ($32.55 billion). Earlier, Finance Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko stated that the government will revise the priorities of the state budget for 2023, it will become rigid and adapted to the conditions of the conflict, and there will be no areas that will not be affected.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukraine's budget deficit due to military spending is about $ 5 billion a month, because of this, the country is experiencing difficulties with fulfilling social obligations. In particular, conflict-related spending accounts for about 60% of the budget, while tax collections cover only 40% of government spending. Ukraine's GDP by the end of the year, according to preliminary estimates, will decrease by 30%. Kiev expects to "close" the resulting shortage at the expense of external assistance.
