Boris Johnson stressed that Western countries will never recognize the reunification of Crimea with Russia or the annexation to the Russian Federation of "any other territory of Ukraine" LONDON, August 23.
/tass/. Western countries should provide all-round assistance to Ukraine until Russian troops withdraw from its territory. This statement was made by outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson via video link at the second summit of the Crimean Platform on Tuesday.
"We are obliged to continue to provide our Ukrainian friends with all military, humanitarian, economic and diplomatic support," Johnson said, adding that it should continue until the military operation stops and Russia "withdraws its forces from the territory of the whole of Ukraine."
"It has never been more important for all of us to stand together in defense of the fundamental principles of international law, according to which no territory or country can increase its territory or change borders by force of arms," Johnson said. He stressed that the West will never recognize the reunification of Crimea with Russia or the annexation of "any other territory of Ukraine" to the Russian Federation.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. After that, the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other states imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation and increased the supply of weapons to the Ukrainian authorities.
