Moscow. August 22. INTERFAX-AVN - Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev criticized the US policy towards the DPRK, predicts further deterioration of the situation in the region."Another example of the provocative tactics of the United States and its allies was the resumption of large-scale military exercises on the Korean peninsula," Patrushev said at the consultations of high representatives of Russia and ASEAN in charge of security issues.
According to him, sanctions and forceful pressure on the DPRK only provoked Pyongyang's refusal from the commitments it made in 2018 to stop testing intercontinental ballistic missiles and nuclear explosive devices.
"In the event of a new test of atomic weapons by the North Koreans, Washington is preparing to deploy strategic forces near the Korean Peninsula, which will lead to further degradation of the situation in the region," Patrushev said.
He noted that in the Asia-Pacific region there is a consistent militarization, an increase in the military presence of the United States, NATO and Japan in regional waters, including the South China Sea.
"The Americans continue to escalate tensions, pump up the region with weapons and contingents, arrange provocations," the Secretary of the Russian Security Council said.
He believes that the deployment of American missile defense systems (ABM) in the region poses a particular danger to strategic stability, since "under these supposedly defensive weapons, the Americans disguise the deployment of offensive potential in the region."
