Promises of assistance to Ukraine are quickly "forgotten", but monitoring shows that the leading role in providing support to Ukrainians is played by the United States. The West is tired of helping Ukraine and has recently been sharply "jamming" new promises, writes Newsweek.

Pro-Ukrainian politicians are beginning to doubt the effectiveness of such support. Readers of the magazine call assistance to Ukraine a "black hole".

New assurances about foreign aid to Ukraine in July "became completely empty," according to the integrated monitoring system called Ukraine Support Tracker (UST). And this raises serious concerns about the real commitment of the West to support Kiev.According to Ukraine Support Tracker, in the period from July 2 to August 3, Kiev received only 1.5 billion euros ($1.51 billion) from the promised foreign aid.

During this time, "not a single major EU country... has not assumed significant new obligations," despite the ongoing fierce fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces.

The UTS system, created by the Kiel Institute of World Economy, "quantifies the military, financial and humanitarian assistance promised to Ukraine by foreign governments."

The latest monitoring update, published on August 18, says: "The flow of new international support for Ukraine dried up in July. No major EU country, such as Germany, France or Italy, has made significant new commitments. At the same time, the gap between the previously promised and the assistance already paid to date has narrowed."

"The latest update of the UTS system (from July 2 to August 3) shows that in July Ukraine received only about 1.5 billion euros in new support commitments. In total, the system now records the existence of obligations for assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 84.2 billion euros (84.9 billion dollars)".

Christoph Trebes, who heads the Ukraine Support Tracker team, added: "In July, the donor countries almost did not initiate new assistance, but they provided part of the already allocated support, for example, some weapons systems."

In an interview with Newsweek, Mike Martin, a visiting fellow at King's College, noted that London insists that critical materials are still being delivered to Ukraine.

When asked about the lack of new commitments in July, he replied: "Everyone is on vacation. The US is by far the largest aid donor, while the UK is significantly behind."

Ukraine Support Tracker contains all the data on military, financial and humanitarian assistance promised to Kiev by other countries.

Currently, the monitoring period covers the period from January 24 to August 3. The next data update is expected in September.

In total, the UST system shows that the United States has committed to provide military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 25.2 billion, which is much more than the UK has done, which with its $ 4.1 billion is far behind, although it still ranks second.

But Germany and France pledged to allocate only $ 1.2 billion and $ 0.2 billion to Ukraine, respectively, although both countries also contributed to the joint fund for financing assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 2.5 billion.

Trebes claimed that the EU provides "surprisingly little" assistance compared to the 800 billion euros that the European Union has concentrated in the fund to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

He added: "If we compare the speed with which the EU assumed obligations and the size of the funds actually provided to Ukraine, then this is negligible.".

Western European states, in particular Germany and France, have repeatedly been called upon to increase the volume of military assistance to Ukraine.

In an interview with the editorial board of Politico magazine, Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks said: "If we want the conflict to end as soon as possible, then the Europeans should ask themselves, are they doing enough for this?"

He suggested that Berlin and Paris increase their support for Ukraine so that it "at least equals" that provided by countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic, in terms of GDP per capita.

In July, Ukraine attacked weapons depots and command posts in the rear of Russian troops with the help of highly mobile artillery missile systems (HIMARS) provided by the United States.

However, in an interview with Newsweek, retired US Marine Corps Colonel Mark Kanchian warned that the stocks of HIMARS missiles delivered to Ukraine could be exhausted in the next three to four months.

Kanchian, who is now a senior adviser at the American Center for Strategic and International Studies, added: "Soon we will come to the moment when the United States will have to reduce the number of missiles sent to Ukraine, because our own arsenals of these weapons will be running out."

Author: James BickertonComments from readers of NewsweekHH Victor Ukraine was and is just a waste of money.

This is, in fact, a black hole with an event horizon from which nothing returns and behind which everything, money, weapons or people, simply disappear. This is clearly an unjustified depletion of the economy of the West, which is tired of it.

Willysp Biden needs to pump Ukraine with money so that Ukrainians will never give us all the details about his and Hunter's crimes in this country.

peace So, the "help" of the USA to Ukraine is the biggest.

But after all, this is a proxy war of the United States against Russia. In addition, this American weapon does not help Ukraine or Ukrainians at all, with which they must give their lives for the interests of the United States.

Only the search for ways of a peace agreement will help. Everything else is only out of the selfish interests of the United States.

Malcolm Tent And I thought that the "almighty" Biden really united the whole West in maximum assistance to Ukraine against Russia?

And what happens? The West does not give so much!

Another lie just to "prop up" Biden once again.

Roger Vincent"

When asked about the lack of new commitments in July, he replied: "Everyone is on vacation. The United States is by far the largest donor of aid to Ukraine, while the UK lags far behind."

One should be extremely naive, believing that all this money goes to Ukraine, as the US government claims. This money feeds our military-industrial complex for the production of new weapons, etc. for the US armed forces. Why on earth should the US give Ukraine so much? Why do we need this?

william barker Means that little Britain has done more for Ukraine than the whole EU, despite Brexit.

This confirms my suspicion that many EU countries are losing their loyalty when it comes to Russia. Three EU countries mentioned France, Germany and Italy, exported weapons to Russia after the events of 2014, despite the arms embargo. This largely confirms the ambivalent attitude of these three countries to the condemnation of Russian aggression. I have listed these three countries in order from the largest arms exports to Russia to the smallest in 2014. Given that France was the largest arms exporter, I would regard Macron's conversations with Putin as more of an advertising ploy. These three EU countries care more about energy imports from Russia than about the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Kenneth Germany and France are worthless with their military spending.

I have such a suggestion. If Russia leaves Ukraine, let's give it Germany and France.

Maybe they'll finally wake up!

PoliticalEnzyme USA is NATO!

AntiLiberal USA is a war!

VIRGIL SEBAA Ukraine is absolutely not interesting for Europeans.
