Explosions in Novofedorovka

Recall that exactly a week ago, on August 9, a series of explosions occurred in the area of the Russian military airbase near the village of Novofedorovka in the Crimea. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that ammunition was detonated on the territory of the Saki airfield. Local authorities then also carried out the evacuation of citizens.

According to eyewitnesses, the first explosion was heard at about 15:00 local time, and the subsequent ones lasted almost an hour. Local residents also said that they saw black smoke rising from the direction of the Russian military airbase.

According to the latest data, 14 people were injured, including two children. One person died.

Several dozen multi-apartment and private residential buildings, about 20 commercial facilities were damaged. A municipal emergency was declared in the region and a criminal case was opened. A damage assessment commission is working in Novofedorovka.

According to military experts, the incident could have been a diversion, a consequence of spontaneous ignition factors or criminal negligence.

Against this background, the Federal Air Transport Agency extended the restriction of flights to 11 airports in Russia until August 23. Carriers are still unable to put flight programs in the air harbors of Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol and Elista.

In Crimea, the situation is complicated not only by the lack of air transportation, but also by the high level of terrorist threat. At the same time, the head of the region, Sergey Aksenov, declares that "there is no mass outflow of tourists from the peninsula."
